Annual Awards

MRPA honors exemplary park and recreation professionals, agencies and citizen advocates through the Association’s annual awards. Award winners serve as an inspiration to our membership and embody the core values of the profession. Help us celebrate the accomplishments of fellow recreation advocates during the following award events:

Placemaking Breakfast -Thursday, February 9 at 7:30 am
Join us at the Placemaking Breakfast to hear Mayors Dave Bing and John O’Reilly, County Executives Rober Ficano, Mark Hackel and L. Brooks Patterson, and Dan Gilmartin as they discuss the importance of parks and recreation in local communities. The MRPA Commitment to Excellence, Innovative Recreation Programming, and Design Awards, as well as the Local Elected Official of the Year Award, will be presented during the breakfast.

Therapeutic Recreation Institute - Tuesday, February 7
The Therapeutic Recreation Awards will be presented during MRPA Therapeutic Recreation Institute (TRI) on Tuesday, February 7. (Please note, TRI takes place on Monday February 6 and Tuesday, February 7).

Annual Awards Banquet – Thursday, February 9
Please join us as we honor individual award winners at the Annual Awards Banquet. Awards presented during the event include Fellowship, Recreation Leadership, Park Resource Leadership and New Professional Awards. A reception will begin at 5:30pm in the Grand Foyer of the Hyatt Regency Dearborn; the Banquet will begin at 6:30pm in the Grand Ballroom.

The MRPA Annual Awards Banquet is sponsored by MRPA partner Grand Hotel, host of the MRPA Grand Experience, Spring Fling and Late Summer Holiday trips.

MRPA Foundation Awards Afterglow
The MRPA Foundation will host an Afterglow social event on Thursday, February 9. Join us as we celebrate MRPA Award Winners with a reception in the Rotunda, immediately following the Awards Banquet.

MRPA State of the Association: Catch the Winds of Change
On Friday, February 10, it will not be business as usual at the MRPA Annual Business Meeting. Beginning at 11am, we’ll be serving lunch and unveiling a variety of new MRPA partnerships and initiatives. The MRPA Marketing Awards will also be presented at this time.
